Weekly devlog #8 - Infected frogs & more
Hi everyone, this week I have made a huge amount of progress. I finished the main new features will be added to the next update. And I have a better guess of when the update will be released now. Here are some of the most notable changes:
Infected frogs
This week I finished animating the infected frogs. I basically took the animation for the regular frog, color swapped it, and did some tweaks to that animation. Here it is:
Adding it to the game was surprisingly easy to do, it just uses the same AI as a regular frog. The only difference is that it doesn't follow the player after feeding it butterflies, instead it follows the player if it is in a close range. These infected frogs spawn in the new glowing caves, and drop infected frog legs when killed. Infected frogs legs are an essential potion ingredient. These infected frogs can be turned into regular frogs by using a regeneration potion.
New health bar
I moved the health bar from the top of the players head to the hotbar. This is in preparation of the new health system that I was talking about in the previous devlog. Your health now also regenerates very slowly, making it more important to keep an eye out on your health. You can heal yourself by eating apples or using a regeneration potion.
Particles
There are now particles when you consume a potion or when you feed a frog butterflies. The potion particle effect changes color depending on which potion you used. I will probably change the particle effect for potions though, because I think it looks too much like a "leveling up" particle effect.
New achievements
There are now two new categories of achievements, one for consuming items, and one for brewing potions.
New clothing items
I have also added two rare clothing items this week, but I don't want to reveal them yet. You will have to find these yourself when the update releases. But I personally think people will like them a lot.
Release date
So now that the main new content of the update is working, I am planning to release the update at the end of June. There are still some improvements I want to make. Like balancing the game, adding quality of life improvements, adding a few more random items, quests, and redesigning the shop ui.
